What is pyrography? Originally, pyrography is the art of decorating wood or other materials with burn marks resulting from the controlled application of a heated object such as mono-focus sun-glass, fire-spray, iron-solder, etc. The process of pyrography has been practiced by a number of cultures in the world, including the Egyptians and some African tribes since the dawn of recorded history. In the 17th century, pyrography reached its highest standard with its sophisticated-tools, and now pyrography product is also known as fire-painting (lukisan-bakar) since there are some artists have developed in contemporary fine-arts within recent century. Pyrography is totally different thing with Ukiyo-e (Japanese wood painting art).
Since pyrography product in Indonesia is still a rare art, Nologaten Gallery tries to facilitate and develop Indonesia the quality product and expertise of phyrographer, and sell their products in this gallery.
